Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre ist ein klassischer Bildungsroman von Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Der wegweisende Entwicklungsroman erschien 1795/96. Er besteht aus acht Büchern, von denen sich die ersten fünf inhaltlich an das zu Goethes Lebzeiten unveröffentlichte Fragment Wilhelm Meisters theatralische Sendung anlehnen. Ein Vergleich beider Texte zeigt etliche wörtliche Übereinstimmungen. Die Fortsetzung Wilhelm Meisters Wanderjahre wurde 1821 bzw. 1829 veröffentlicht.

Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship (German: Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre) is the second novel by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, published in 1795–96. The eponymous hero undergoes a journey of self-realization. The story centers upon Wilhelm's attempt to escape what he views as the empty life of a bourgeois businessman. After a failed romance with the theater, Wilhelm commits himself to the mysterious Tower Society.

This Bildungsroman (novel of education for Wilhelm) is one of the most influential books in German and even European literature. It tells the story of Wilhelm and his love for theatre and the journey that takes him on until the end, when he finally receives his apprenticeship. It's written in 8 books, and chapters within those books, so the reading is manageable in chunks, but there's certainly lots of important reflection to do as you go through!
