Se questo è un uomo è un'opera memorialistica di Primo Levi scritta tra il dicembre 1945 ed il gennaio 1947. Rappresenta la coinvolgente ma meditata testimonianza di quanto vissuto dall'autore nel campo di concentramento di Auschwitz. Levi sopravvisse infatti alla deportazione nel campo di Monowitz, lager satellite del complesso di Auschwitz e sede dell'impianto Buna-Werke proprietà della I.G. Farben.

It describes his arrest as a member of the Italian anti-fascist resistance during the Second World War, and his incarceration in the Auschwitz concentration camp (Monowitz) from February 1944 until the camp was liberated on 27 January 1945.

Primo Levi wrote this book based on the many horrors he experienced in World War 2. He was at the Auschwitz concentration camp until it was liberated in 1945, and wrote the book so future generations would reflect on it and its history. The title, ‘If this is a man’, asks at what point you lose your humanity, during all the inhumanity of WW2. It's a wonderful, emotional and captivating book that I recommend reading for everyone - improving your Italian is just an added benefit.
