What an opening into English 19th Century romance! This novel shows above all the importance of not judging someone too quickly, and the overpowering nature of love above social class, societal expectation or even pride. I cannot recommend this book enough.

I've probably read this book about 10 times through my life. It's such a great story, and a really charming insight into an older time. The details, the love story, and the heartbreak all keep me coming back to re-read every couple years. There's also a movie, so if you don't want to read the book... you can always just watch the movie that was really well made.
