Bel-Ami est un roman réaliste de Guy de Maupassant (1850-1893), publié en 1885. Le roman paraît d'abord sous forme de feuilleton dans le quotidien Gil Blas, avant d'être édité en volume aux éditions Victor Havard. Les éditions Ollendorff publieront la première édition illustrée en 1895. L'action du récit se déroule à Paris pendant la seconde moitié du xixe siècle.

Bel-Ami ([bɛlami], "Dear Friend") is the second novel by French author Guy de Maupassant, published in 1885; an English translation titled Bel Ami, or, The History of a Scoundrel: A Novel first appeared in 1903. The story chronicles journalist Georges Duroy's corrupt rise to power from a poor former cavalry NCO in France's African colonies, to one of the most successful men in Paris, most of which he achieves by manipulating a series of powerful, intelligent, and wealthy women.

This is one of my favourite French books - I read in about a day because I just couldn't stop! It's set in Paris and is about an ex-soldier who will seduce, manipulate and betray anyone he needs to to reach the top of the Paris social scene, and the French is very clear. It's also a great book to start reading Maupassant with.
